The beginning of a new year is as good a time as any to start working on the foundation. A solid foundation ensures that you will have a sturdy structure for years to come.
Pyramids stand the test of time. Some of the Egyptian pyramids are over 4,000 years old. Why is that they are able to withstand a changing world?
The foundation.
Building a pyramid is a major construction. There is much time in leveling the surface before the first stone is even set. Some pyramids are built on sand, others are on stone. Both surfaces must be leveled precisely. There was great care in setting the foundation.
A solid foundation is not only for physical structures; it’s critical for mental ones as well.
There are no shortcuts to be taken when building the foundation, as if there were appreciable shortcuts at any point along the way.
“If I were given 8 hours to chop down a tree, I’d spend 6 sharpening my axe.”
– Abraham Lincoln
As you plan your goals for this year, work hard on establishing a solid foundation for them. I don’t know what lay ahead in 2016; but I can assure you that there will be speed bumps, along the way. There will be unexpected things pop up that are out of your control.
Whether or not the stronghold you have built (either physical or mental) will survive, depends greatly on the foundation you have laid it upon.
Perhaps, a structure that you constructed last year has been knocked down. If it is within your dreams and wants, don’t give up on it. Simply rebuild. But rebuild even stronger this time, taking great care on the foundation it stands on.
Be diligent in your preparation so that your execution may be flawless.
Spend a little extra time preparing. It will greatly benefit you in the long run. Remember, that Rome was not built in a day and the best way to eat an elephant is one bite at a time. So you too should take it one step at a time, one day at a time.
Strive for constant progress to your goal.
There is no elevator to success; you must take the stairs.
